And we have chicks coming in late May, but I won't be hatching any here, and will hold off on possible meat birds.

I just heard on the news that Cal-Maine is shutting down egg production in one of their facilities, due to AI.

I think getting chicks will be really popular again this year when egg prices spike.

Centralization of production is a huge problem. More distributed systems are more resilient to disruptions.

Just heard on the local news a dairy herd in NC has tested positive for avian influenza. Doesn't say which county. It is listed on the NC Ag page.

I also see a backyard flock has also tested positive in Guilford Co. NC.

Newago County is a "knight move" from me. (Up two, left one.)

I haven't heard anything else about the Herbruck's flock in Ionia County. That's about 20ish miles from me.
