Belgian Watermaal Bantams - a cousin fo d'Anvers/d'Uccles!(pic heavy)

OK that is awesome I was hoping to get a type that could be shown within two generations. Mottled is ABA accepted, right? Also how does the mottled happen of there is no mottled birds in the cross.
Thanks,
Ethan

Mottled is an accepted color. But if you cross the pyncheons to the self blue, the chicks will all have one mottling gene, they will also have one lavender gene. Mottling and lavender (the gene that makes self blue) are both recessive genes , that means it takes two copies of the gene to show the trait. So when you cross the F1's 25% will be mottled, 50% will have one mottle gene and 25% will not have any mottling genes, But at the same time 25% will be self blue, 50% will have one lavender gene and 25% will have no lavender genes. of these chicks some will be self blue and mottled, some will be self blue with one mottling gene, some will be mottled with one lavender gene, some will be self blue with no mottling genes, some will be mottled with no lavender gene, and there will be various others split to lavender or split to mottle or split to both. When breeding with two recessive genes it get complicated fast. It might be better to cross your pyncheon to a black first. This will give chicks split to mottling and the F1 cross will give you mottled, and blacks, both recognized colors.
