I'm with you on that one, I want to start myself, but am afraid that our inside temps. fluctuate too much to keep and incubator going right....we heat with wood. Guess I must wait and be patient....boo....

Fern, my best layer. Her eggs are big and beautiful, perfectly blue and she laid six last week. We have two blue Ameraucanas. Love them!!

Just curious- do hawks attack them much? It seems like their coloring and body type would deter hawks. Mine free range quite a bit and there are lots of hawks nearby. They stay under the cover of trees and shrubs mostly but I am wondering if the hawks aren't interested.

Hawks eat everything and anything. You have simply been lucky since your very lovely ladies have been smart enough to hide under the shrubbery.

I have an opportunity to get some Blue Ameraucana chicks, or fertilized eggs. I'm not sure I'll do it, though, since my four girls (2 EEs, a Barred Rock, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte) are doing well together. Just checking out the thread for more info.
