I was wondering if anyone has ever bred a Blue Copper Maran Rooster to a Welbar or Cuckoo Maran Hen?
I did and this is this outcome.

The females may or may not pass on their gene for barring. If you use a barred rooster, and breed to a single barred hen (Welbar or cuckoo maran I think both have single barred females), you can have auto-sexing chicks evident by a dot on their head for males, because males will inherit two copies of the barring gene, and their feathers will show brighter barring than the females. The dots may be subtle though, if this isn't selected for over a few generations.
