Breeding Frizzles

stacey, if you want, i have a lady in spring who is looking for blue or black frizzle pullets. i can give you her email, and you can see if she could be a potential good home for your little girl.

If they can mate, it will work. those parts are the same, its just the feathers that are different.

I was under the impression that the frizzling gene was recessive. Am I wrong? If I am wrong, how come I've got a smooth feathered bird with a frizzled dad?
mothergoose1963: as long as they're the same breed. ie, the roo isn't a frizzled polish.
 
The frizzle gene is an incomplete dominant, meaning it only takes one copy of the gene to make a bird a frizzle. That's why you should only use a smooth bird to breed a frizzle, since two copies of the gene make a "frazzle". This way, 50% of the offspring will be frizzle, and 50% will be smooth.
