sorry to hear that.....I have not purchased birds from her.....Have you had them evaluated by a poultry judge to see if they are of good or bad quality yet? I remember you saying showing would probably not be sometime you would want to do.But how do you know if they are worth or not worth what you paid....Do they have DQ traits for the breed ,per the standard of perfection? And good quality rare breed birds, breeder quality or show quality could run quit a bit .A breeder has to make money to keep there flocks fed. No,disrespect intended but I hope you may understand where I'm going with this. Most breeders are very resonable for PET quality birds,as they would rather find them homes as a cull method ,to people who just want to enjoy them. And some people just know they have good birds and have spent the time developing the breed ,time, work and showing them...and thier experience and knowledge is worth the price for the bird its self. Celeste ,I find to be extremely knowledgable about all forms of poultry....and who would be a great person to know if you are just starting out ,I.E proper feeding, hatching,if your birds become ill,as she prides herself on the fact that her birds are NOT carriers for an avian illness because she takes proper procedures to insure that..I enjoyed" talking chicken" with her ,which in my book is the best part of the hobby! I like chicken people and thier birds, whatever they do with them...anyone else agree?

She was a very nice person, and that's what got me to pay $60.00 for what I now concider three rescue birds. They were hen pecked with lots of back feathers missing and after five months have not grown back on two of them. They are not rare breeds, two are Brown Leghorns, and one is a Buff Orpington. This was a person that I found nice enough to want to call her "friend", but those were my first three birds, I now have nine and would of had eleven, but two passed. I have yet to spend another $60.00 obtaining the other 8 birds.

PS: I have not had them evaluated by a poultry judge.

I'm a newbie here. I live in Wildomar and am researching raising chickens. I'm leaning towards Plymouth Rocky because of their temperment and egg laying. Any suggestions or advise would be extremely helpful!
Hi Momma,

I am in Wildomar also....got my first baby chicks back in April and 2 have just started laying. I am such a newbie, not sure I can be much help. I have 1 Easter Egger, a Red sex link and a Cochin and one RIR Roo.

Hi everyone! I have not been on BYC in a long time and thought I'd jump back in. I'm familiar with a few Calif peeps from FB. I'm down to one roo and one older hen, who is understandably not thrilled being the one and only. I would love to find a couple/3 pet quality LF hens to give her a break.

I'm in the Corona area. I was at the spring meet up in Norco but doesn't look like I can make the meet up at Bumpy Road Ranch next week.

BTW, the Seramas at that meet up where the cutest things! I need to learn more about that breed.
Hi Barb, we are in the same FB group.....sorry you can't make the meet up.....In regards to seramas , we have some cute little personable birds but can be soooooo expensive, hard to hatch. Serama breeders are a very small group but very encouraging,as they have only been in the U.S about 11 years.Ive seen a few people selling them on craigslist at a pretty good price.A lady in Oxnard is selling her small flock for $100 which is a steal for Seramas....I paid at for 1 pullet

Hi, my name is Tricia and I am in the Inland Empire, My daughter and I (10) decided since we live in a rural living area amongst farms of horses and such we would finally get a farm animal and we bought 2 small incubators and a bunch of the rarest eggs from the highest quality bred breeders. (now knowing we should have started off with cheap eggs) and did not realize some of the breeders would send many more than I ordered to account for non hatchers which led me to have to buy another incubator so they would all fit.

We had alot of eggs and a big hatch and had to place several that we had to many of that type. I now have a flock of rare but common chicken types. a few I ordered as shipped babies.

I have two 100 percent english chocolate orpington bantams (both girls I think) I an enormous 100 percent english lavender orpington and hinks line a female lavender orpington. I also have one buff one lavender splash one black from a showline in texas a english lemon cuckoo, couple of silkies a golden and buff polish and a little mixed silkie cochin rooster that is so friendly and tiny a easter egger and a speckled sussex.
.

On 3.5 fenced acres they manage to live right in front of my screen door and do not wander from the house more than 20 feet.

oh and I forgot about my baby Jubilee byron.. I think he is a boy I have no idea really, I guess it does not matter. I bought 3 eggs off ebay for 60 dollars two were fertile and one hatched... he lives in the house in a parrot cage (he is still tiny) and when I let him outside he chases the other chicken even though he is a baby then waits on the door step to come back in.. I think he is spoiled.
