It's common place for us to attach our own restrictions to other animals because it's easy. From a dog breeders perspective; I own pitbulls and their athletisism will astound you. I have 4ft tall shade structures for mine and even the smallest one(15in / 40lbs.) can hop up on the thing almost effortlessly. As far as a 5 foot fence? I could see a coydog or coyote easily getting over it but just jumping and clearing it would be iffy in my book. Plenty of mine have gotten over 6ft fences but they usually jump to the top, hold their self there with their front legs and the upper half of their body, and pull themselves the rest of the way over. Like the other poster said also, they would only go over if they couldn't get under or around. Another thing; the post with the running and jumping numbers on it read, to me, more like a linear jump at full speed for distance and not height. We can all long jump further than we can high jump.
