Dose anyone know were I can find a hatchery in canada with a bigger variety? Were do canadians get their stocks from?

I'm not in Canada, and you didn't say where in Canada you were, but this is the information I found on the internet...

These are hatcheries/farms..

This is the Yahoo! Canadian Directory for Poultry..

I have heard good things on another site about Freys, but don't know about the rest. I'm sure some BYC Canadians will be able to help. Good luck!

I'm in B.C. and out of those hatcheries, dont seem to have any choice other than Rochester who I order from regularly but wish I had somewhere else to go.

I am happy with the stock and delivery pretty much through Rochester, but I do not find them helpful in the slightest. Their phone staff seems to know nothing about the birds they sell and can only accept orders and not answer any questions whatsoever. There seems to be one person that can answer questions, but never actually gets on the phone, just relays her information to the uninformed sales person who relays it to you.

I would also love to be able to have more selection in heritage breeds of layers - McMurray has such a good selection but alas does not deliver to B.C.

So, I am stuck ordering from one place that I do not like unfortunately....

If anyone else knows a hatchery that ships to B.C. with a good selection and healthy birds - I'd LOVE to hear about it!

where in Ont. I live in southern Ont. and found several smaller farms that sell them, not sure what your looking for, we got 2 white sussex, Jersey GiantX, one red sex link and...um...jeepers I keep forgetting what Valery is...she is black and cute as a button.

I found for sale ads in the local feed stores. Also this time of year with the county fairs starting up, that would be a great place to talk to breeders and people that have them and most likley sell them also.

hope this helps

Performance Poultry they are near Ottawa

They have every breed of bird you would ever look for, but they only do batches of 25 and day olds only. They will mail them to you. You might be too late for this year, but they may have slowed down enough to take an order now. They are wonderful!

I guess this thread is a bit old now, but I ordered from Performance Poultry early this year (they have a HUGE variety of not-so-common breeds, and are the closest to where I live). They were very helpful and timely in answering the many questions I had as a new chicken-raiser.

When I put in the order, there was an automatic order confirmation, but never heard back from them in terms of when the hatch date actually was. Finally I got in touch and they sent an email with the info almost immedietely, adding that they would call 2 days before the pick-up date. The date came and went without any word from them - I called, emailed... No reply. Eventually I found a few sweet little chickeys somewhere else, but at the time was quite gutted. I kept waiting for these people to return my message, and during that time I could have instead ordered from someplace else and actually had some chicks before the orders were all filled...

This is an older thread, but I am hoping to revive it! Where in Ontario do people order specialty chicks from? It seems that most Canadian hatcheries only carry the basics, and certainly don't offer supplies like the US hatcheries do.
