coop bedding- what do you prefer??

We use sand. I scoop it out twice a day, and it takes about 3 minutes tops. I just installed a poop board, and I think that will cut down my time to about 1 minute. Whatever substrate you use in your coop, a poop board is worth the while!!!

Hey they can also use ashes from a pit fire or something and it gets rid of lice and mites! And they do it all the time

That's what I do in my coop. I have a flat box with wood ash in it for the chickens to bath in and they love to do it.

Cedar shavings, the bugs hate it, it nullifies the smell, absorbs the moisture and the chickens ( although I did not conduct a survey) seem to like it.

Cedar is toxic to chickens. I'd rather not risk it.

We put a roof on it but a chicken escaped by jumping on top of it but the can escape by jumping on the coop then onto the tree, Chickens are questionable!

The nesting boxes are hay, they all sleep on the perches though.
Never heard of cedar being toxic to them before, I hope not because we have A LOT of cedar around here.
