difference between a Columbian wyandotte and a light sussex?

They look very similar to me. I am interested in layers. How are they different, similar in egg production and in broodiness?

Wyandottes: rose comb, yellow legs.

Sussex: single comb, white legs.


I don't know about the difference in production or broodiness between them though.

Sussex: good brooder, good layer of medium sized eggs, winter layer, winter hardy
Wyandotte: not broody, average layer of slightly larger eggs, very winter hardy

Sussex is a better meat bird, slightly larger. The different colors of Sussex can have different personalities. Lights are calmer I think, although my speckled are pretty calm.

BTW: that coloration pattern is my favorite also.

sussex is wheaten based with some form of hackle black.
wyandotte is e^b = brown based, dark underfluff.
