Shadowfire
Crowing
Hi everyone. When my neighbors gave me an old, rusted-out set of a chicken waterer and feeder, I decided to put them to good use; I turned the metal "scrap" into a beautiful, easy, backyard planter! Today I redid it and filled it with things I picked up alongside the road, along with weeds that look beautiful when you get to know them.
I used foxglove, soapflower, oxalis, evening primrose, rosemary pine, wild onion, and quite a few mosses and other plants. Please share any other DIY planters you made from old feeders/waterers! I don't have any plans for how to make it; I just lined the bottom with plastic so any water wouldn't rust the metal more. The I filled it with potting mix and pants (NOTE: Put foxglove in the top because it has a long taproot). I would not advise putting it in the chicken coop because they will pick out the shallow plantings.
