DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

Was just reading and came across this post, so you just need something to deter hawks? don't actually need a net? We had some issues with a hawk during the winter and tried closing it in but since our run was an odd shape it is an eye sore. Something like this would be so much easier on the eyes.
Netting was the way to go for us. We are in Hawaii on the big Island and have only two winged predators, Barn owls and the native Io. Neither have been a problem for us since we put in aviary netting to cover the 20' x 20' run. It has 2"x 2" and made from squares polyethylene that so far has lasted three years for us. Good luck with your solution, keep us posted on what you end up with.

New gate door I made for my portable fencing pen. The old one was kinda flimsy and I needed to fix it. This one is a whole lot more solid.

Hi. This is our chicken coop that me and my dad build for my 2 silkies. It is starting to get chilly at night here now and just want to know what temperatures they can survive in and what I can do to make it a bit warmer for them? They sleep in the highest 'bunker' at the moment. Attached are some pictures.

How cold does it get? Chickens can take a LOT of cold, heat is harder on them. It can get down to almost -30C here and my girls are fine. There is no heat in the barn but they do have the barn alley to hang out in when there is snow outside. The barn is really old and not at all air tight so there is plenty of air exchange and no wind blowing through the coop itself.

It's starting to get about 5 degrees celcius here at night. In the day it's about 20 degrees. So far no cold wind yet. And by what I can gather, there is no breeze or draft blowing on them where they sleep at night. I'm new at keeping chickens and want to make sure they get the best I can give them.
