I think you could start by picking the scab off and squeezing it like a pimple. I suspect that the swelling is pus and it's unlikely to resolve on it's own.

Can you take him to a vet? I have very little experience treating these, but I do know that the infection can spread and become life threatening. I know because I lost one this way.

If they can't get anything out do you think continuing to soak will help it resolve on it's own along with the antibotic? Kathy?

@DiamondSwan Your going to have to find a way to get that pill down his throat with out it going down the wrong hole. Maybe crushing it and hiding it in something he likes real well.

I am so glad you found what was causing the problem. Bless his heart for being such a good boy, drakes really are special.

A for the Keflex, I think the dose will be 1/4 to 1/2 capsule 2-3 times a day for 7-14 days. Give me a few hours to verify that.
