My little duckling is 4 days old and all of a sudden, has trouble balancing and walking on one foot. I’ve been feeding my 4 ducklings DuMor 22% Duck feed with 35mg/lb of niacin. Is this sufficient? I plan to switch to a lower protein level at 2 weeks. I’ve tried getting him to eat and drink but he’s not interested. Added supplemental nutritional yeast to the water and food but not interested. What do I do? I have a couple of Tractor Supplies nearby but not sure what to get him. Please advise! Thank you.

Try a few drops of poultry cell or Nutridrench
Also durvet vitamin B Complex
Can you post a video of baby
Might be something somebody else has dealt with
Often if in pain they don’t eat
Wondering skipped tendon ?

When I videoed it, it stopped falling over but originally, it looked like it couldn’t stand on the one foot. It’s the smallest one of my 4 babies. It’s eating and drinking now but I have NutriDrench just in case. However, I don’t see Vitamin B as a listed ingredient. The niacin issue is a bit confusing for me in terms of the levels. What is the recommended level of niacin for ducks at different stages? I can’t seem to find a clear answer.

Well each duckling is different
Some don’t need extra and do fine
Others need it
They can be from the same parents
Durvet vitamin B complex is best
1ml over small treat or directly
Adding ti water dilutes it to much and then they don’t get the full dose needed
But she is smaller so the dose would be less
@Miss Lydia maybe able to share the link on dosing
It says injectable for cattle on the bottle but it’s oral for birds
Many of us give this at any sign of leg issue even if it wasn’t niacin
Just had a duck this winter sprain her leg slipping on ice is my guess
I gave the B as well as Medicam and she healed quickly
I also give my babies 1tbs nutritional yeast over 1cup feed ( every feed )
I do this for 12 weeks. Then a few times a week sprinkled in after that
In winter I gave it daily and some of my birds are 2 years old
I haven’t yet ( knock on wood ) had any niacin issues
I may give more then needed but it won’t hurt them as they flush out any they don’t need
It’s better to give good preventing measures then end up with it

Thanks for all the good advice. I’ll be buying the Vitamin B complex just in case. So far, he’s doing well. But I’ll be keeping my eye on him since it just seems odd it stopped.

Poultry cell doesnt contain enough niacin and Nutridrench does not contain niacin.
The dosage for Durvet high level Vit B Complex will vary accordingly to age, currently, we go:
A few drops a day, for newly hatched ducklings

1/4ml, once a day, for ducklings 5-7 days old
1/2ml, once a day, for ducklings 7-14 days old
1.0ml, once a day for duck(lings) older than 14 days
Or, 25mg, once a day, for ducklings 5-7 days old
50mg, once a day, for ducklings 7-14 days old
100mg, once a day, for ducklings older than 14 days
