In my neighborhood many of the touchier points of chicken keeping, are left too much to the imagination. So if you have easygoing neighbors you can keep roosters, or have 25 meat birds, but if you have a complaining neighbor, like one of mine, you are given a hard time for keeping a few bantam hens.
I like the way in Durham the ground rules are specificly spelled out. It seems much more fair.
It looks like the city has done some research and come up with a pretty good ordinance. A lot of people signed the petition at the local farmers market and I think that got the attention of the city. I live outside the city so this does not effect me but it is nice to know that "them city folk " can have chickens if this passes.
I agree - its well written and in plain English. They clearly did some reasearch to take and took things they liked from other towns (I see a few things that may have come from mine.)
