Hi all!

So, I have a 2-3 week old EE chick. I know that by comb it is much to early to tell gender, but I’ve read multiple places that if a EE feathers in with a red shoulder, then it is male. Is that true? If so, is my supposed-to-be pullet a cockerel?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the comment! I know it is much too early to tell by comb color. But, I’ve heard that EE cockerels feather in with yellow shoulders. Do you know if that is true?
Yes , That’s true. I’ll go ahead and get that yours is a cockerel, but it could just have a unique feather pattern

The reddish brown coming in could just be the feather color. It’s a bit too early to tell gender :)

It looks like a starlight green Egger pullet to me. EE’s usually have pea combs ☺️

The red color locations in an EE is mostly a myth. It probably has the most different variations of any different "breed" on the market and can be solid red if the right genes are there.

By the time you'd see any red leakage, there would be no doubt that it is a cockerel.

In the meantime, it does have a single comb comb which is totally fine (again, no real breed standards aside from the "colored" egg) but said comb does look to be on the larger side. As many have said, too early, but with my life at stake, I'd say cockerel at this time 👍
