Hello,
I am looking to expand a bit on my property, currently I have 44 chickens and am thinking of fencing in a larger area of land, my question is, is there any money in emus or ostriches? With chickens I can sell eggs to help pay them off and pay for feed, after there done laying I can fill the freezer, so a chicken is worth the investment. Currently my set up is a 1/4-1/2 acre fenced in (round heavy steel pipe fence) with two stalls left, I could fence in about an acre total, my question is would emus or ostriches be profitable? I know there is oil and feathers ext and the eggs but is there a market for any of it anymore? I live in Ohio and winters can be pretty dang cold here, they could have stalls for shelter but would I be better off getting cows or an animal like that over big birds?
