This is my second time getting chicks from Meyer’s and I think this is the funkiest mix yet. This will just be an age progression post that I hope to update weekly to document how they grow.

Start/Day 2:

Drago II - Salmon Faverolle. This lil guy should be the only male of the group. I bought him to replace my previous faverolle male that died in a freak brooder accident about a month back.

Uno - Partridge Cochin. Okay, so I had been trying to hatch one of these since January from hatching eggs from Meyer’s. I had been plagued with incubator troubles and power outages every single time. The last hatch I attempted, I only got one cochin to hatch out of six and one lavender orpington from the single assorted egg I ordered along with the partridge cochin eggs. Fast forward to 5 weeks later and both were killed and eaten by a snake that got into the coop. After that incident, my brother bought me this little girl.

No Name Yet — Egyptian Fayoumis. Just wanted a breed I’ve never had before and another white egg layer other than a leghorn.

No Name — Lakeshore Egger (?). I think this is my lakeshore egger, but I’m really not sure. It could be the meal maker, too.

Pop Fart ( lovingly referred to as by my dad ) - Mille Fleur Belgian Bearded d’Uccle. Hopefully a pullet, but I didn’t seem to have great luck with straight runs

No Name - Light Brown Leghorn (?). Again, not sure but I did order one. I didn’t expect to get two chicks that look nearly identical. This girl has slightly yellower legs, though.

Pop Fart 2 - another d’Uccle. Again, hopefully a pullet.

No Name - New Hampshire, Rhode Island Red or Lakeshore Egger ? Again, no idea which one, but I feel she’s a RIR. She has to be the meal maker or lakeshore egger.

Pop Fart 3 - d’Uccle. Yeah, I want all 3 to be pullets.

No Name - Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. She had some pasty butt that I had to take care of, but she still looks like a puff ball.

No Name — Buff Laced Polish. Technically my brother’s chick, but he keeps them with my flock and I take care of them. Definitely the goofiest chick I’ve ever seen.

Mumble - Blue Ameraucana. She’s a replacement for the ameraucana chick I lost not long after taking the first set of chicks home back in April. My dad said she looked like the penguin off of happy feet, so he unintentionally named her.

No Name - Colombian Wyandotte (?). This is a bin chick I picked out. I’m pretty sure on the breed and she’s the second biggest chick.

No Name - Green Queen (?). Another bin chick. I thought she was a black copper maran because she had copper in her wing feathers like my blue copper did, but I didn’t notice her 5th toe after we were already down the road, lol.

Chunk - ?. Another bin chick. I was hoping to get a partridge penedesenca, but I’m not sure if I did or not. We’ll see, I suppose. She is the biggest chick I have.

Here’s their current set-up. It was something quick because I tried putting them with one of my broody hens that has been sitting for 26 days on some golf balls, but she tried to kill them as soon as she felt them move under her.

Not all broodies make good mommas. Enjoy your babies!

Yeah, it’s been a new experience this year. This is my first flock and the oldest are a year and a half, so this is everyone’s first time being broody. I’ve had 3 broodies since the start of spring and they all hatched their chicks or accepted the chicks I gave them. Except this last one. I don’t know if she knew they weren’t hers or she’s just a homicidal broody.

She’s still sitting, so I don’t know if I should just give her an egg from my other hens to incubate or break her. Since she’s already been sitting for this long, would it be a bad idea to let her go for another 21 if I give her an egg?

Cute babies! I just picked up some chicks from Meyer's on Tuesday as well, so I guess our babies are hatchmates! 😁

I was told the meal maker this week was a Cream Legbar, and that's what I seem to have gotten. I honestly wasn't going to get one at first, but when the lady behind the counter said that's what they were, I was pretty much like 'SOLD!' 🤣 Here is my Legbar baby. The one you're speculating could be the meal maker is pretty similar to her! (Sorry for the poorly thought out wood pane background with a brown chick :p )

Cream Legbar pullet.jpg

Chuck reminds me of my Partridge Rocks from them at that age, though I don't remember if they had quite as dark of feet. 🤔 Should be interesting to see how she grows. Mine were outgoing as chicks and were both female, so I wouldn't get too worried about behavior just yet. :)

Oh, man, I just looked and it says the meal maker could be a cream legbar or olive egger. I really, really hope I got the cream legbar because that’s what I have been wanting but never wanted to pay the $24 for lol ( because I already paid a lot for my ameraucana & blue laced wyandotte ).

I wouldn’t be upset if Chunk turns out to be a partridge rock, but I was really hoping for that penedesenca. I have enough roos as is, so I’m really hoping she’s just a very outgoing she.
