I was going to grab the heated Premier one nipple waterer but hoping to find a larger option and build one with a 5 gallon.

Will a deicer ring melt the plastic inside?

Will the silver heater ring base for underneath I've seen on websites melt it?

What's the best way to heat these safely?

Would like a better longer running solution snow and ice are coming and cleaning the ones I have is going to be a pain.

Yup. There are a number of options available. You need to verify that they say that they are safe in plastic. Here is one example (no personal experience):

I do use the following bucket with integrated heater for the last 3 years and it works well:

Whoops! 500 watt deicers for 30 gallon tanks is the smallest for my temp zone. Way too much power yikes for my 5 gallon waterer. 🤣😂😅🤣😂😅🤣😂😅

I use a cookie tin water heater for my 5 gallon nipple bucket. Works great for me, even during snowmageddon until the bulb went out. Depending on your area, you may need a higher wattage bulb. I plug it into my thermo cube plug and I'm set for winter.
