is my duck laying or sitting?

my duck mango (a mallard Indian runner cross) is about 3 years old and i am expecting her to start laying soon but i am beginning to wonder if she is already laying or even sitting. she has been sneaking off after feeding and is almost always last to arrive for food i have also seen her chatting up some of the drakes. do you have any tips or tricks to figure out what shes up to? hope you can help!

Follow her and see where she goes? Is she confined or free range? Do you see her most of the day or only at feeding?

she is free range, i only see her at feeding time or just after, i have tried following her but i always loose her in long grass or she fly's away
