BREAD.

I don't know why but my birds go absolutely bonkers for bread. I've been on a low carb diet so watching them scramble for it makes me giggle. But what exactly is it about bread that makes it so irresistible to them?

I've tried other treats: mealworms, diced veggies, fruit...nothing quite like bread. Any thoughts?

We've only offered ours stale bread and always have to pick it back up when it gets ignored.
Last week I did something that I'm still not sure if I'm going to regret.
I got back from Lees, the best southern fried chicken chain IMO. The leftovers don't keep well as the crispy coating gets soggy in the fridge.
So, I tore some up really small, and went out to the 2-month-old juveniles offering them "pork".
In moments I was surrounded by piranhas, circling, weaving, diving around my chair. The "pork" ran out and they were flying up trying to get my fingers. I beat a hasty retreat to wash the smell off my hands.
I haven't given any treats since, I'm hoping they forget. A few are still eyeing off my fingers when I go out there.
