Kids with allergies & chickens

Complete newbie here. Is anyone allergic to chicken dander? My 8 year old has allergies to a bunch of different things including dust mites & dog & cat dander. Nothing life threatening, but he does take an inhaler everyday. So I'm just wondering if taking care of chickens will aggravate him?? I'm going to ask his allergist.

I am allergic to down. I keep chickens. I'm also allergic to dogs and cats, but I keep those, too. I don't have asthma, though. Zyrtec is my friend.

In all seriousness. If your son sees an allergist, they can test him for down allergies, and you could ask if it is possible to test for chicken allergies. They might say that he is OK as lomg as he's not rubbing the chickens in his face or cleaning the coop/run. Never hurts to check with the doctor. That's what they get paid for.

I've heard of people being allergic to "birds", not chickens specifically though. I guess, if you are allergic to birds, then chickens would be included.
