I know some people even use color zip ties if they aren't running any kind of a major operation. Just don't winch them down all the way and leave a little room for growth! You can usually buy multi colored packs by the 100's at Walmart for less than 5 bucks

Is there any other cons? Like I have most of my chickens that would use around the same size. I'm just worried about them hurting their leg by getting the band stuck on something and tugging on it.

I personally have never had any problems with that. They kinda fit on like a ring or a tight bracelet, there isn't a ton a room for something to get caught in the ring part. I think the plastic ones would even break off if they got stuck, they aren't very robust or anything.
