Negative temps

Iowa here Persistent negative degree temps with even more negative windchill (-30 this morning). Never have I heated my coops, never lost birds to cold. Last winter was about the same temp wise.
Ventilation must remain in coop but birds must be DRAFT FREE, no wind on the birds. Their feathers keep them insulated just fine. Keep them full of food with available water 24/7. No extra heat source required.

Does anyone put Castor Oil on the Rooster's comb and wattle?

I used Vaseline, and their combs

I have not, but do occasionally use BagBalm.

Most experienced poultry keepers in very cold areas do not recommend putting anything on frostbit combs or wattles. Keeping coops dry and ventilated is best practice for fighting frostbite before it can happen.
