I would like to think that my little boy Blue would try to protect the girls if something threatened them, but I kept him because he’s sweet and entertaining to interact with. I just love holding him by my side as I talk with family, as he just lets his legs go limp and waits for me to put him down.

We have 6 bantams, 4 silkies and 2 brahmas…. 3-4 weeks old and we heard a weird noise (attempt at a crow maybe?) twice now!!!!! We really aren’t interested in having a rooster, any way of telling who the culprit is?!?

The one that is trying to crow.....:gig
Seriously though, look very carefully at the comb. The one with the biggest, pinkest comb is probably him.

There are a lot of different opinions on roosters. Some people hate them and think them the devil, some think that they're unintelligent, yet roosters can be really fun to be around and form an integral part of any flock. People keep them for a variety of reasons - do you?

What do you use your rooster/s for? Place your votes above (you may select more than one)

Feel free to share any other reasons you keep roosters in the comments section below.

Each coop (we have two) has its resident rooster. We had 17 babies hatch out under our porch much to the grandchildrens delight! And 3 turned out to be roos. Sooooo after having babies in and out of baskets and watching TV
w us our three favorite became the boys..lol. The girls just had other things to do. They are my back door guards and cruise loose. They wait for me every morning for fresh breakfast. One of them has decided he's the roo for our guinea hens even coops up with them at night.
