Oh my. He is so gorgeous!Entry #1
Breed: Impeyan pheasant
Here is a picture of Dracula showing off!
He is a very sweet male. He got his name because when he has a chick he would sleep upside down in my hands cupped together like a coffin. Then I would “creak” them open and he would pop out and make cute little chirps.

There were some at the Whitford Bird Garden when Blake Twigden owned and ran it, but I know it has changed hands now so not sure if they are still there. They are called Himalayan Monal pheasants here in NZ. We got to see them once and they really are stunning birds. His male was always at the entrance ready to greet everyone.Wow!! I really hope there are some.... any idea how to get hands on any??There were some at the Whitford Bird Garden when Blake Twigden owned and ran it, but I know it has changed hands now so not sure if they are still there. Unfortunately no. I'm pretty sure (a few years ago now) I saw some for sale on TradeMe down around Canterbury (pick up only so way too far for me, and they weren't cheap either). I really hope someone still has some. You could try contacting the Whitford Bird Gardens and asking if they do still have some and if they'd consider selling you some eggs. I checked on the Rare Breeds Society NZ but there is only one person with pheasants listed there (and it's not those beauties).I really hope there are some.... any idea how to get hands on any??
