One morning,I was checking on my chickens[3 Brown Sex Links, one White Leghorn rooster] and stepped on a soft spot in the straw that I use for bedding. It was a large chicken Snake,.I beat with a shovel I had handy. It didn't die,but won't be coming back. There is a big, crazy looking dog around the area who,if he could, would kill the chickens. I have a good predator proof[I think],and the dog shows no interest in the run where the chickens are in the daytime. I do know that the dog makes a meal of critters that he catches around the rural area I live in. I'm glad to have him roaming around as he also discourages outsiders from wandering onto our place.
