So neither my husband or myself are in great health. I will have to do this myself (54 yr old chubby girl šŸ˜œ) so here is my plan. My coop is a converted play house and has no eaves or overhang. I have a ridge vent, a large window in the man door and 2 small windows in the front. The front door is open all day long so right now during the day there is plenty. The front door is starting to rot so we are thinking of taking off that door, boarding it up and putting in a pop door. I am NOT handy or healthy enough to try to cut large holes in the walls not to mention there is not much wall space to do that with the roost on east wall, the large rollout nest boxes on the west wall and doors on north and south wall. So, I got these and plan to put some over each door and then several up high all along the east and west walls above the roosts and nest boxes. How well do you think this will work? They canā€™t be closed but are slanted to supposedly keep out the rain. Also, I canā€™t find any info on how much actual ventilation the roof ridge provides. I also have a ā€œJob siteā€ fan rated for dust however with the hemp I have very little dust. Yellow dots on the pics is where I want to add the circles. Thoughts?

Can you get a neighbor or handman to cut a triangle under the peak on each end? I'm not sure the circles will be enough.
Thought about trying to find someone but money is tight and most of my neighbors are older than we are lol. I will look into it. Even with 20 total of these circles over the doors and along both walls that wonā€™t be enough? It has to be better than nothing additional right?

This is so easy to do. You cut a hole in the siding and screw the vent over it or in the hole. Wish i were closer . I would be done quicker than your trip to lowes to get the vent. But i know power tools. A drill driver, saw saw, and tube of chalk, done.

I wish you were too! Neither of us have any business being on a ladder with a saw LOL. Thatā€™s a trip to the hospital waiting to happen šŸ˜œ

Psst! This is a simple enough job that you can probably just ask a local Boy Scout or Webelos troop to do it for you. If you have a church the teens in the youth group might be into it. Mormon missionaries usually have community service as part of their mission and sometimes welcome a chance to take off their ties and do some handywork. The fact that it's dangerous for you to get on a ladder and money is tight is why they do it, but giving them lemonade and lunch is nice.

I think all those 3" vents are more than enough, but I live in a really dry climate.

The little circle vents unfortunately add very little ventilation - if they're 3" they're just under 0.20 sq ft each. So 5 of them would yield 1 sq ft. In hot climates you really need something like 2-3x more ventilation than moderate climates.

I agree. I donā€™t believe they will create much ventilation. But I was just curious if you board up the front door how are you get in there to clean? Really just curious. Because I may have missed something because with my recent lack of sleep, I tend to do that.
