Getting ready to order this years chicks. We order 6 chicks every year. First
Year we had White Rocks. We wanted white eggs so we went to White Leghorn
This year. Things I noticed. Leg horns lay better than the rocks. Leg horns eat
More than the rocks. The rocks showed better.
So my question is. Opinions for this years chicks? I want good layers that show well.
Thinking about Rhode Island Red.
Maybe back to White Rock?

Nothing is going to lay better than Leghorn. I'm surprised yours eat more than your Rocks, though. My experience has been the opposite.

I'm the type that gets bored with the same old thing, so were it me, I'd be looking for something more exotic or unusual. But if you're looking for good layers, stick with the classics. Reds, Rocks, etc. For something a bit different, maybe a Wyandotte? They're good layers, as a rule. The laced coloring is harder to get a nice show bird, though. How about an Australorp? The black color makes then easier than a patterned bird, and they're great layers. Friendly, docile birds as a rule also.
