Peafowl 201: Further Genetics- Colors, Patterns, and More

Personally, I have a sneaking suspicion that "Charcoal" is actually a metabolic disorder, with the black feathers being a highly visible symptom. Beyond the fact that females are sterile (or have limited fertility, in some Spalding Charcoal hens), the birds don't live as long as do non-Charcoal birds. In effect, it'd be like breeding for "yellow eyes" in another species, without realizing that you're actually selecting for a genetic form of jaundice.

thanks alot

Can anyone please give me more information on my new pied peacock? He is a year old.

What would he be considered as?
I’m new to peacocks so I don’t really know about color combinations or the benefit of different breeds or patterns.

I just want to know more about my new peacock As far as his color, pattern, genetics etc.

Thank you so much!

He appears to be an Indian Blue Pied. I'm not seeing any signs of him being a Spalding, he is missing his crest making it more challenging to identify if he's a Spalding. The other peacock with him is a Purple peacock.

Yes the place we got him from they told us he is an Indian blue pied, but he still has full black under feathers on his wings. So I’m not sure what that makes him or what kind of genes he is carrying.
And if I had to breed. Which peahen will be good for him.
One more question,
Do you know how will his tail look like when he is grown?

"Do you know how will his tail look like when he is grown?"
He will have 1 year old in June/July ... he has now 20 feathers in his tail adult perhaps 120 !There are different kinds of 'Pied'!
It looks relatively white ... it's a modern "Pied" nowadays people prefer very white pied peacocks. We can just say that the center of the tail is always white!
It will be like those there!.... Twins !:wee

Oh thanks for the info, very excited to see him grow. And you hav nice peacocks.

I’m planning to get bronze pied white eyed peafowls in few weeks. Trying to get myself more educated with the genetics and color combinations so I can breed better and good quality birds.

What do you mean? Indian Blue peacocks will have a grey/black down feathers at the cloaca and under their wings. Pied peacocks you can't predict their train design. They'll have about 200 feathers when they're an adult. Each bird has different markings. If you want more Pied peafowl, you need to breed him with a White peahen.

Today I went to see these beautiful peafowls that I’m willing to buy.
But I’m not quiet sure what breed they are for sure or what gene they are carrying.
I’m very new to peafowls but I’m loving the new experience and learning everyday.

I really need help understanding more about these peafowls. As the owner said they are a breeding pair and should lay anytime soon.

My questions are.
1: What would be the breed or what pattern they are.
2: what gene they are possibly carrying?
3: If they breed together what would the babies look like or what would be they considered as?
4:And what would be the rite amount for me to pay for them?
I really appreciate any information.

Thanks in advance

The color is Bronze and the pattern is pied.
2: what gene they are possibly carrying?
They carry Bronze barred and pied genes in theory! They can be split other color or pattern but nothing is visible ... if they are born at a place where they mix several types of peacocks!
3: If they breed together what would the babies look like or what would be they considered as?
Bronze Pied X Bronze Pied = 25% White; 25% Dark Bronze Pied; 50% Bronze Pied.
4:And what would be the rite amount for me to pay for them?
500/600 $ pair.
