The only thing that occurs to me is that sometimes an individual contains cells with different genetic material...?

That is so cool! I wonder how on earth they developed that? I wonder if the black and white ones would throw a hawk off at all?

Those are genetic chineras - effectively two different embryos that fuzed into one animal. They cannot be selected for, as they produce offspring that inherit either the genes from one side of the other. Some of these may even be half male and half female.

Ok, not pigeons.. but I had ducklings hatch yesterday... momma brought them out this morning .. all 10!
