Need some advice
Getting some chickens soon just not sure which breed to go with at first was thinking some good old Rhode Island reds but we have really been considering buff Orpington lately
We have always had chickens mostly barred rocks but we have not had any chickens for a couple of years now and want to get back to them
We will get 50 pulleys and about 5 roosters but would like to here some input from anyone and perhaps any breeds

Get 10 hens and 1 rooster of the following breeds and you will have a beautiful full basket.
RSL,welsummer, EE,ORP, and Australorp.May trade welsummer for marans.

Because it's mothers day (UK), I thought I would post some pics of all my mother hens from over the years. First we have Orp, with Asparagus and Bella (2012), we then have Orp with Dorothy and Lily (2013), We then Have Daisy with Lacey (2013) and then we have Orp again with Jezebel and Chanel (2014), then we have Bella and Henry (2014) and then we have Orp and Coco (2014)

Also got to give credit to Melow. She was sitting at the same time as Orp and all her eggs were infertile, so once Orp has her first hatch, I took the other hatching egg (which was Bella) and give it to Melow. Her and Orp then came together to raise them until Melow was killed .

There is just no other bird that I like to collect like the orpington!!! Wide, fluffy, friendly. Thanks for all the great photos. My collection grows...

,,,,in the bator now: Gold laced, spangled and a new blood line for the chocolates.

Buff
Blue
Chocolate

Picking up in a few weeks:
Silver laced
Lemon Cuckoo

I have now created a "special" yard for my orpingtons. We put deer fence around the orchard. 3/4 acre. I have the back half I am putting in separate yards for breeds with access to the orchard for rotating. It's one of the most luxurious places on the farm JUST for my special chickens!
