My little cockerel BO, who looks maybe a couple of weeks older, does exactly this same thing! Love them!

This chick was sold to me as a partridge. He looked like the others as a baby but had darker stripes and was twice their size despite being the same age... now he? Is feathering in and I am curious... am I seeing mottling on the tips of his wings? Why are his feathers framed in black like that?
