the cage has a new Leghorn, who may be a roo but I think a hen.

Those are some great photos!

In that last one, it almost looks like the one with the big red comb looking right at us has a split comb. Is that a split comb? Or just the way it looks in the photo?
 
@Brandychick yes, just toss them carrots, you don't have to prepare them in any special way. I guess if the carrots are super large and hard the chickens might have an easier time eating them if they are diced or shredded first.

Pumpkin would also help with returning the yellow to the legs. With a pumpkin you would only have to split it open and then toss it into the run. However, I know that some people like to make a small hole in the pumpkin shell, and then put it in the run as a winter time activity. With a small hole the chickens have to work for days until they manage to get all of the flesh out.
