post your chicken coop pictures here!

Quote: we dont have barns here pretty much... Just a big runin shelter... Um er Big A** sun shelter... LOL

The one she has now is much bigger than two carports. ONly one post in the corral and sixteen by twenty four feet worth of SHADE.

I have it setup for two feeding areas so incase there is some "discussion" at feeding time... No fur will be removed.

But I free feed anyway so there probably wont be a discussion.

Update on the progress of our new chickie coop. It is way beyond anything I had ever dreamed of. My hubby is amazing. He's been listening to everything I keep showing him and saying "isn't this cool". Still have some trim work to do on the outside and lots on the inside, but it's coming along.

I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH ALL THAT PARTICLE BOARD STUFF. YOU MAY NEED TO SEAL/PAINT THE EXPOSED OSB BECAUSE IT WILL CRUMBLE FROM MOISTURE, HUMIDITY, CHICKEN POOP, ETC, SO IT WILL GIVE YOU LESS YEARS OF DURABILITY. WE MAY POSSIBLY NEED TO DO THE SAME ON OUR ORDERED COOP IF THE WOOD LOOKS "SUSPICIOUS".

Heres my 'coop'... its more of a sheltered run with a duck house on the left and a raised chicken house on the right... since adding some chickens, i've added 2 small roosts and a small next box inside the chicken house. By the way I live in a city with very close neighbors, so I can't free range much... Its a dual purpose building, for poultry and privacy...

Where do the chickens roost?

It looks like I have the same coop as kfisher, only mine doesn't look half as beautiful!

We bought ours off ebay. It's a 'cheap import'. This is it:

We made some modifications. I removed the tray and put a wedge in. To clean out, I only have to park the wheelbarrow in front of the coop and push everything out through the gap. I also bought window vents and put one on each side. They're permanantly open to allow for air circulation without letting draughts in.

This is the winter location. We get very strong winds here and that area is just behind the garage, so relatively sheltered.

This is it from the other side. I put a window in, so they can stay indoors during the day if they like. You can see the chicks all perched there looking out. They shouldn't be there for much longer before they move into their own accommodation. This coop is just for our three 'garden' birds. The others will be moving into the stable we're renovating.

Next Spring, I'd like to paint the outside. I had in mind cream and blue. I really like kfisher's design, so now I'm hesitating! It's had two coats of wood preservative, so I have time to decide.

Here is a view of the inside. Insulated, plyed, caulked and painted with high gloss. We relocated the perches into 'better' positions.

Why are your pics just ads?

Those pics were not finished, you are right we did not like the one latch. We added a sliding lock at the top of each door, I was worried a critter could make it's way in. I posted finished pics on my main page. I am loving having chickens, can't wait to get more ;)

I would do the floor as well. with a very good sealer and a coat of paint. Or Some people use truck bed liner spray on sealent. Another floor option is buy a Linoleum scrap and lay that down... Smooth and easy to clean.

The idea is to be able to strip and disinfect if necessary... Hopefully it wont be necessary but being capable is a good idea.

Hi d - is she your Perch? My Dad had one on our 1940s farm but only until he bought a surplus WWII Caterpillar and then the Perch was gone. After the War farming took a back seat to rising technology and Pops had to get a "regular" life job to sustain the farm - instead of the other way around!
