PVC feeder question.

Just made a PVC feeder for my chicks with a wye. The chicks (5 weeks old) figured it out pretty quick. One question I have is that the chicks are spilling out a lot of feed at the base of the feeder but I read others say the these feeders reduce wastage. Here is a pic of the chicks eating from the feeder. Is it too low?

I built the same feeder for my flock. I've had to add an extra piece of pipe about 4 inches long to the open end. Chickens still get go the feed bug stopped the waist.

Thanks. I raised it up a little bit with a 2x4 and they were still able to spill out some so maybe I need to raise it some more. Out of curiosity how did you plug the bottom of the wye? Our local HD didn't have any plugs so I cut out a yogurt lid the diameter of the inside of the pipe and held it in with a drain plug.
