Help! My female Coturnix quail has had bumblefoot, and today I found her cage covered in blood. It looks like the scene of a murder. She had been pecking at her foot.

The other two female quail in the cage definitely didn't do it, they don't have any blood whatsoever on them.

Treatment: warm epsom salt bath every other day/ daily, betadine mixed with sugar applied to foot. Try to carefully get bits off.

Why is she doing this??
What do I do??
How can I help her?
Gas anyone else has a quail that does this?
Is this normal?
I'm worried she'll like the taste of blood or something and start pecking other Quail's feet.

Here's some pictures:

Are you sure she didn't get her foot caught on something and cut?
Can you have somebody hold her so you can get a clear picture of where it is bleeding from?

I'll try to get one.
Yes, I'm sure. There is blood all over her mouth and there isn't anything in the cage she can get her foot stuck on.

It very strange for a quail to do this to themselves.
I am thinking you should look closely for something that could have cut the foot first...which caused her to start peckin it.

She has bumblefoot, so maybe one of the lumps got caught on the wire at the bottom of her cage, but she hasn't been down there all day as far as I know and there's no blood down there. That's the only thing she could've.

Go get a clear picture of the bottom of both of her feet and the part that is bleeding please.

I couldn't get a proper picture, but it's definitely from a part on the bottom of her foot. She must've seen the blood and pecked at it, hurting other parts of that foot. She was moving a lot.

Should I give an Epsom salt bath and wrap it after putting on betadine and sugar to coagulate it? It's bleeding profusely. Blood went everywhere when I picked her up, even on my phone while I was taking photos.

I saw your other thread.
this is a lot off poop for 3 quail to be walking around in.
I think the problem started with caked on poop burning the foot raw and now she's pecking at it because it hurts.
