Hello,
I have always purchased day old female chicks. This year I was inspired to hatch eggs in my Kindergarten classroom. It was a wonderful, exciting experience for everyone in the school. They inspired questions, visitors, science projects and stories.

Now what? When will I be able to confidently identify the roosters? They are 10 weeks old. I have too many chickens. 4-6 fit comfortably, 8 is TOO many. If they are roos they go to a friend for dinner. If they are hens, a few will go to a friend who just built a coop.

The two barred Rocks hatched 2 days apart and are roughly the same size. Zelda/Zeke's comb is slightly larger.

The sussex grew quite fast and is quite bold, climbing the coop roof and looking in windows.

By what criteria are you identifying the BR as roos. My late BR hen also had a distinct comb (she would sometimes get a bit of frost bite if not careful)
