They are about 5-7 weeks old... I think the orange one is a Roo, the tail feathers are fairly straight up too...
but the Blue one I have no clue...
both tend to keep the polish girls in check and reigned in....
What do y’all think?!?!

Hi and welcome,

One question, had the chicks been really active shortly before the pictures were taken? Activity level can affect color in combs.

I can about guarantee you'll be told the chicks need to be older.

There is a thread about EEs that discusses how to tell gender. Perhaps someone there can help.

No they were in the coop house resting
I’m hoping to sex a little early so I can rehome Roos now if needed and replace with hopefully hens

Both look like cockerels for the stated age. Tail feathers are irrelevant at this point, it's all about comb color and size.

The dark one looks male in the comb department. The brown one looks like it could just be flushed. I also don't see reds or oranges shining through the feather pattern on the brown one that would be a good indicator of male. :pop

You won't have to wait much longer for a full confirmation on gender.

Could you get some pics of them just standing and not being held? That would help me determine gender from seeing some full body shots.
Sure! ( that was harder than I thought it would be these two are the sweetest out of everyone and love attention and photos taken lol)

Oh I hope the orange (brown) one is a hen, that one is our sweetest one :) but the kids are getting attached so I hope to rehome Roos quickly ;) the orange one always looks that way... resting, active...whichever. :)

The sunlight in the last pic shows the feather color much better, and currently thinking that could indeed be a cockerel. Plus they are usually the friendliest/favorite. :hmm

Plan to give it at least 2 more weeks but start making your plans for rehoming is what I would do. The beard inhibits waddle development, but they might also be getting red. That pic # 3 looks funny like it is crowing already! :p :(

Not really much hope of them two being female after the new pics... BUT :fl :fl :fl

Agreed, orange/brown one looks like it could be female, but the other one looks like a definite roo. Very pretty birds! Too bad that you can't keep any roos. Are you not allowed to keep males where you live?

Someone stopped by today who raises chickens and they were pretty positive blue is too and orange is hen

Our neighborhood laws are “no livestock” though multiple people have ducks or chickens...so we’re assuming the literal sense of the word livestock...so to be courteous we decided to not keep Roos as well as not chance having any chicks to sell down the road which would then be livestock. :) Though we are pretty confident we’ll be moving this summer as my husband is changing positions — if at that time we’re able to get a roo, we wouldn’t mind it. :)
