I was thinking of just buying a cheap incubator to use as a hatcher.

Sorry for all the questions. I just really don't want to mess this up. My first hatch were just barnyard mix, but these eggs are more exotic breeds & I really want them to hatch.

Jump over to the Cinco de Mayo page and ask her. I was just cutting and pasting to help ya out

Jumping over as suggested

The Oxine is a disinfectant.. even works on Parvo.. but isn't as "toxic" as bleach to your birds... so it's safe to spray on pipped eggs on even in your chicken's face (several people have used it for birds with respiratory issues)

I buy mine from First State Vet http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store2/oxine-gallon.html
http://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=661 sells it in smaller sizes.. but I have never bought from them.

more info on Oxine: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...s-users-please-share-usage-dosage-storage-etc

by the way.. you do NOT want the Oxine with the crystals.. it's for use in foggers in commercial hatcheries and so on.. much too harsh for home use (and the fumes are toxic in this type)

for the Listerine use half Listerine to half water.. you only need enough to saturate the paper towels.

the reason for using either one is to inhibit germ / bacterial growth on the paper towel. I prefer the Oxine.. but I realize most people do not have it on hand.

Of all the turkeys I have had (and I have had close to a thousand over the years).. I have never named one "Lurkey"

I must be slipping!
No??????????

I must just be old.............................."Chicken Little", the children's book.

Chicken Little was in the woods.
A seed fell on his tail.
Chicken Little said,
"The sky is falling.
I will run."

Chicken Little met Henny Penny.
He said,
"The sky is falling, Henny Penny."
Henny Penny said,
"How do you know, Chicken Little?"
Chicken Little said,
"Some of it fell on my tail."
"We will run," said Henny Penny.
"We will run and tell the king."

They met Turkey Lurkey.
Henny Penny said,
"The sky is falling, Turkey Lurkey."
"How do you know, Henny Penny?
"Chicken Little told me.
"How do you know, Chicken Little?"
"I saw it with my eyes.
I heard it with my ears.
Some of it fell on my tail."
Turkey Lurkey said,
"We will run.
We will run and tell the king."

They met Ducky Lucky.
Turkey Lurkey said,
"The sky is falling, Ducky Lucky."
"How do you know, Turkey Lurkey?"
"Henny Penny told me."
"How do you know, Henny Penny?"
"Chicken Little told me."

"I saw it with my eyes.
I heard it with my ears.
Some of it fell on my tail."
Ducky Lucky said,
"We will run.

They met Goosey Loosey.
Ducky Lucky said,
"The sky is falling, Goosey Loosey."
"How do you know, Ducky Lucky?"
"Turkey Lurkey told me."

Goosey Loosey said,

They met Foxy Loxy.
Goosey Loosey said,
"The sky is falling, Foxy Loxy."
"How do you know, Goosey Loosey?"
"Ducky Lucky told me."
"How do you know, Ducky Lucky?"
"Turkey Lurkey told me."

I heard it with my ears.
Some of it fell on my tail."
Foxy Loxy said,
"We will run.
We will run into my den,
And I will tell the king."

They ran into Foxy Loxy's den,
But they did not come out again.

Oh I've heard of Turkey Lurkey (I'm an old biddie myself)... Just never thought to name one of my birds after him

Sooooo my son's bus driver asked me today about Bourbon Reds and Silkies. I think she is enabled! :D

We will be doing both the psycho broody pics and the loving mother hen pics! Chooks is offering 6 Bantam Chocolate Orp eggs for each of the winners. Thanks Renee!!!

No poetic talent here....but since it is required.....

There once was a hen named Lurkette,
No chance for an "after" cigarette,
SCG has no jake,
cried Lurkette, "For Pete's sake,
Get some fertile eggs for Lil Lurkettes!

I keep hoping a wild turkey will answer her forlorn cries.

Nice work.

There was an old biddy from 'Bama
Who put baddies in the 'slamma'
She turned on her lights
And didn't think twice
About citing NotAFarm for candor
