They are very motherly even when not broody. My broody hen just died suddenly when caring for two week old chicks. I showed them to my other two Japanese bantam hens and one began grooming the chicks and scratching with them, even showing them what to eat. She keeps going back to them to see how their doing.The other hen who wasn’t that fond of them was still polite, she gave them a few very gentle taps but wasn’t mean.
They are very kind and mellow and even my rooster isn’t mean in any way towards humans. I don’t want to jinx it but he doesn’t really crow unless there are predators or something to be alarmed about.
