I visited Tractor Supply in Ogdensburg NY yesterday. Main reason was to buy PDZ, got 16 bags (not sold in Canada).

My get list also contained a permethrin powder, I could only find Sevin dust. I have looked online, see use for chickens mites/lice is off label & quidelines for "safe usage".

I need a powder form to treat mites during cold temperatures. The Sevin Dust cost $20, I can throw it away but access in Canada to such stuff is not easy.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I usually add some diatomaceous earth to their usual dust bath spots and it does the trick. If you are going to tractor supply anyway it is very cheap and your birds will thank you for it.

As for sevin dust I’d ask a veterinary specialist because i don’t know if them breathing it would be safe.

I will add that if you run in to the issue of everything being wet and damp preventing them from dust bathing then you may need to make them a spot. I’ve had to do that before in the really wet times of fall here

I have used it and had no ill affects (in a sock and puffed it on the chickens)

It's totally fine to use.

Unfortunately de really doesn't work well at all.

Make sure you treat every bird and your coop because mites are really hard to get rid of and you need to treat often.
Thanks. i have had Northern Fowl mites in the past assume that this infestation is the same but will check.

It early Spring here, I empty bedding and clean my coop this time of year. Getting ready.

I prefer to use Permethrin Spray but do not when it is cold. I need powder for those times and use sparingly.
