Should I put my dog down?

I have an elderly male dog that has urinary continence issues. I use what is called a male wrap. It goes around the middle and is secured by a kind of velcro on one side. It is very easy to get it on and take it off. I don't have any trouble with them coming off unless I don't have it on tight enough. You do have to make sure his wee wee is under the wrap so double check. Ask me how I know this. The wraps are disposable and work very well. There are also washable wraps available. You insert a mini pad to soak up the urine.

I get my wraps on amazon. If you get the wrap on properly it won't come off. There is quite a selection of wraps available. As for the urine smell get an enzyme cleaner that chemically breaks down and destroys the urine.

I was going to post a photo of my diy doggy diaper suspenders but the photo is too distressing for me to look at (my dog was very sick). Anyway, what I did was clip a ribbon to the diaper and tie the ribbon to her harness.

I love that idea but we live on ten acres with woods that coyotes live in and we see all them all the time.

What about a fenced yard for him? And maybe restricting him to a utility room when he's indoors?

Unless this dog was raised mostly outside and doesn't care about being with his people, which I highly doubt being that he is a Maltese, you shouldn't make him live outside. For most dogs that would be stressful. I would never do that to my companion dogs.

Maltese are lap dogs, not outdoor dogs. Making a Maltese live outside is beyond cruel. Beyond that, Maltese are small enough that they can be taken by birds of prey.

Interesting. I'm unfamiliar with the breed personally. If it's a companion animal then I suppose indoors makes sense

They're right, at his age you don't want to change his lifestyle like that. Major stress.
