Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

What is your opinion on this Roo? I know he's not SQ with red coming through on his comb, but is he BQ? He's about 3 months old so he still has some growing out to do. Thanks!

comb-of-male-white-silkie-david-pell-jpg.1153676

I've got some Silkie/satin/frizzle eggs in my incubator right now from a well known breeder. She has beautiful birds! I'd like to show them with my 4-H'er. I'm not experienced in breeding to the standard, but the one major flaw that I've noticed in her pics are some red/pink combs. I was hoping to learn more about how to darken up the comb and get a great walnut shape if anyone has any recommendations. I'm guessing that red flaw is one of the "cochin traits" she mentioned from working with the sizzles. I thought maybe if I could find a breeder with straight up silkies (meaning no frizzled cochin added) with really dark combs like this that hopefully I could get the best of both worlds. Fluff & frizzle with black comb! Anyone know of somebody with birds with black combs like this that sells hatching eggs? Or other recommendations to improve the comb?

If any breeders could give me tips on what else I should be looking for or working on to get show quality birds with this breed I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

These are some of the beautiful birds from the breeder I'm currently hatching eggs from. She's working on F20 and has a focus on Satins (sizzles) and getting them recognized as a breed.

P.S. I know that they are supposed to be able to see but those fluffy crests are just so pretty I couldn't resist!

In another day or two, I'm going to get my last 3 cockerels banded and take some pictures. I want to keep 2, 1 as a breeder and 1 as a backup. Will you guys help me decide which one should go to a new home and which two are best to keep?

I've never shown before, not sure if I'd be much help but I could tell you my favorite.

Ok, here we go! I need to know who you think is best for breeding and who you think is worst and should be sent off to a new home. I'm only keeping 2. I did the best I could to get decent pictures. All are bearded (yellow has had his picked and green has lost some of his too). All 3 boys are roughly 7-8 months old.

This thread is just what I'm looking for. My question: How many generations does the sizzle gene last before it dies out? The only Silkie /Sizzle rooster I kept was killed. I have the hens and am hatching their eggs of the last week. Hopefully there will be a good male. I haven't found ANY more sizzle/Silkies in mine or surroundings states, and the people I sold to are not responding to my posts for another male. Help, how long will my breeding carry the sizzle gene... How many generations can I keep it alive?

Any opinions on my babies as far as showing goes they’re 4 months old and will be 6 months when I show them. Also any help for showing is appreciated as far as getting ready before the show.
2 partridges, a buff, a black.
All have right number of toes one of the sets of toes those is almost right against the foot flat not straight out like a toe.

Help, how long will my breeding carry the sizzle gene... How many generations can I keep it alive?

Im still needing an answer to this question. How much sizzle wil his kids have.

I am not sure what you are asking. You had a male Sizzle. Was he the only male? What are the females? To answer how long you can hatch eggs sired by him after he is gone, two weeks give or take, as long as he was the only male. As for how long you can keep a sizzle line going, indefinitely, as long as you put birds together that will reproduce the trait. Where are you located?

I am in Arkansas. My only Silkie/Sizzle roo was killed by a hawk. I am hatching the last of his eggs hoping to keep his sizzle genes going. I'm wanting to know how many generations the sizzle will last. (The hens who layed his eggs are Silkie without the sizzle.) I know these eggs will be 50/50,but what will the 2nd and 3rd generations and on, be? How long will the sizzle last?
