Silkie thread!

The younger they are? Is the easiest way I could tell.
But you're correct! It's a 50% chance of what they'll be.
I've had many dark babies hatch from pure white silkies.
They always turn out to be white.
What are you hoping for? Roo or Hen?

Yes I have had lovely blue silkies hatch from whites and they have ultimately turned white. This is different again. I really don't worry either way. We are on acreage and have no restrictions, but pullets are of course a nice suprise. In saying that , all of my Roos have names mainly because they have much more personality than hens.

My hen, Molly, in my Avatar is a Blue! Beats the heck out of me! Looks black, grey and silver to me! LOL

I've named them all. Hens and roosters. I had a bunch of them with names starting with an M. My XH could never figure out who was who! He took markers and colored their heads with different colors, wrote their name on the cage they slept in and then marked the paper with the same color. He was in charge of taking care of them while I was in New Mexico for three weeks.

He accidentally put a sick hen out with three other hens in a pen and couldn't tell which one she was. I had him hold each hen up to the phone. When I heard her? I said; "That's Jennifer, put her back inside!"

What do you do with all those chickens?

How do you handle a large crop in your Silkies? I thought my seven month old was going broody spending along time in nest box, she's been laying some large eggs too so I've been keeping a good eye on her to make sure she doesn't get bound. I kept her in last night and her crop is still large this morning. I'm not positive if I'm dealing with impaction, sour or slow crop. She did have access to grass this last week. I've given her olive oil, water and a stool softener mixed with probiotics this morning. I posted a thread but thought I'd ask the Silkie Specialists too!

Sometimes momma needs a little help. I also dip my finger in the water and drip water into the beak, just to be sure they are drinking. This is my new little one. Unfortunately momma let the other eggs go cold.

Oh my gosh! Lol! This picture is soooo adorable! Completely made my day. Lol... I still can't get over it, and it's a great picture. Gotta show the hubby (He lives on BYC vicariously through me :p).

Sounds like it could be a Yeast Infection!
If her crop feels like a balloon full of liquid? That's what that is.
I sat with the hen in my lap and massaged her crop. I'd gently push upwards and then back to get it to go down her throat. I fed her "exact" baby parrot food thru a syringe to give her some food as well as grit in her crop.
This is a killing disease. You need to get on top of this problem immediately!
I've read around the boards where there are other things you can do too.
My hen is thriving today and what I did is what saved her. I'd lost several before her because I didn't know what it was or how to cure it.

Thank you! I'm wondering if this is it too, it does feel more like a water balloon today than a hard mass like yesterday, it has gone down a bit, I did give her a probiotic tablet mixed with the dulcolax and water, this morning. is the parrot food a vet item? Thank you so much I'm fresking out the vet won't be in till Friday.
