Silver Laced Wyandotte SLW Rooster Progeny Grow Along

Here's the gang at 4 weeks. Running out of space in the brooder so we'll have to find a new home for them this weekend (probably a large pumpkin tote on a pallet). Omlet definitely looks to be a throw back from somewhere with that white breast and pale down. The crosses are still all white with the occasional black peeping through.

I had no idea how much they would eat! I'm currently going through about 6 lbs of chick feed a day (filling up both 1 kg feeder twice a day). And I've got another batch of SLW (a dozen eggs) in the incubator due on the 19th!

They most likely are spilling the feed. Which is why mine get it soften until they go out as they cant spill it out

Seven weeks old today and two of the SLW/leghorn cockerels celebrated with their first crow! It makes sense since the leggers are earlier maturing. We have found a better feeder which has helped with the feed waste. I will say that I am looking forward to seeing them outside in a run and not in the wood shop. They’re making great compost, though! We also got a jiffy wing tag thingy and finally have a count on estimated boy/girl numbers and comb ratio (will share later).

Based on the wattles and combs, we're thinking 4/6 hybrids are roosters and 3/10 SLW are roosters. Since taking the count some of the combs have definitely grown, though! 4 of the 16 birds have single combs. These consist of three hybrids and only one SLW.

Silver over gold would be sexlinked males would be silver and females would be gold but would be hard to pick them out if some of the eggs where slw eggs as those would be either sex anything bred to a leghorn chicks will be white with black but as for the comets those could be either as ive hatched 3 from a sex link hen two where white with one laced feather and one was all half laced and looked like a wyandotte with one copy lacing
If the rooster is silver and the hen is gold, you would not be able to create sex links, as all the chicks would be silver.
