Squatting when I pet them. What does that mean?

I just had my first sex link girl give me my first eggs 4 days ago. She seemed to do this behavior the first day I found the egg. Well my other two red sex links are now doing it too! Didn't find more then one egg today so could this possibly mean they are about to lay? Is that a clue as to when they may start? Thanks

If anyone is still unsure of what it looks like when they squat.....do not fear.....I promise, you'll know it when it happens.
If your chickens squat down, and walk at the same time as you pet them, THAT'S NOT SQUATTING.
When a hen squats, she'll freeze, and hunker low to the ground.
Everytime I put one of my hens in that situation, I give them a firm back scratch (simulating as much of a rooster as I can bare to think) and then watch them walk away and ruffle their feathers. Someone on here posted as to why they ruffle their feathers afterwards....for the same reason some women believe in laying upside down aft..........nevermind.

After my chickens squat, and I give em a firm back scratch, they walk off looking for a cigarette.

A few of mine started squatting about a week ago and we got our 1st 2 eggs (blue/green from one of the Americuanas) 3 days ago and our 1st brown one yesterday... One of my usually aloof Silver Laced Wyandottes squatted for me for the 1st time today.... Hopefully a sign she'll start laying soon if she isn't already... I've only figured out 1 of the 12 that has laid... I'm so excited!! This is my 1st attempt at raising chickens! I'm obsessed with them now!

I think I just got my first squat a few minutes ago! I went to pet one and she sat down. When I started petting she arched her back pointing her butt at me. Does this mean I'll be getting an egg from her soon?!
Ha! It likely won't be too much longer! :) It may still take a bit, but she's gearing up to do something fabulous with her butt lmao

How cute, lol. I didn't think of me as the roo but thats funny. The one that started laying was the one who was very skiddish of me of the 6 older girls. Now she doesn't run away when I pet her. I wasn't sure if it was because of the laying or just getting used to me. How cute. Hope they will all become that nice. I'm tired of going in the run and getting my legs pecked at. It can hurt, lol. Oh I'm just so excited to get more eggs. It's kind of like Pringles, can't have just one! I need more now a day. My hubby thinks I'm nuts, hehehe

What a HOOT! The things I learn on here. Now that I think about it (my girls started laying 5 days ago and today) they have started to squat when I approach them and do allow me to pet them more easily. It's all coming together....hmm. I am learning. Not sure about the being sexy part though! Pretty sure my 20 year old son will not be amused.

OMG too funny! Mine do that too, and I ruffle them up and they love it. Now I know that I am basically masterbating my hens! ROFL oh well, they practically stand in line for my attention now.

My husband calls our girls his little butt dippers. One day, Husky was squatting, and he gave her some rather... Vigorous, petting.
I told him he basically just had sex with the chicken, and he replied, " no, just some lovin's!"
... Yeah... rooster style lovin's!
