Stay at home parents!

The few days he didnt have the cast on he slept all night for the first time since casting began.
that is fantastic! Getting Babies to sleep through the night is such an achievement even when they have no medical problems at all. My son is 8 months and growth spurts seem to disturb his sleep pretty regularly.

I feel for anyone who has sleepless nights with kids. My Son used to scream and scream constantly for no apparent reason. In the end I would do things like Bath him at 2am to try to get the warm water to sooth him. DH used to get up even though he worked full time and take the baby out walking the poor man would stagger hiome at 5.30am and the darn thing would still be screaming!
I would put him on the floor in the middle of the room and make sure nothing was near him to cause harm and I would go out the front door and walk to the end of the block of houses and come down the back way and walk back through the garden and into the back door! If I didn;t I would have smothered him! Needless to say he is now into his 30s and yeah he did survive and grow up! Unfortunately his mouth still doesn;t have an off button though!-lol

Glad to see this thread to help our young parents!
From an old Bird!

Oes.

Roy (8 months) is officially crawling now and a fairly quick speed. My daughter Johanna (19 months) has been the resident terror - I mean helpful toddler for around 6 months months. She walks runs etc and helps with everything under the sun which most recently includes changing Roy's diaper if he should happen to fall asleep mid play. Today I got a small taste of what having 2 toddlers is going to be like. Whilst I was occupied in the restroom Jo got the salad dressing off the dinner table, took off the lid and emptied the remaining dressing on our nice area rug in the living room. Roy was there to play splashy splashy patty cake in it. Arms, legs, and hair were sticky by the time I got there. The worst part is it was Catalina dressing (red colored) so at first I thought Roy was hurt before the strong sweet smell hit me.

Seriously, how to people poo in a house with Toddlers?!

. But atleast i know what they are doing lol lucy seems tp get into the most trouble unsubsrvised she naughty about getting in to flour, paint oh and peanut bytter that she like to eat and paint her giant Ryder horse that my mother gave her i hate when she does that!! Oh an coloring the wall she can reach everything joe and what she cant reach she climbs to there no place left to hid in this small house and she can now open doors so unless i want her to pop outside with out my knowledge she must be watched. Thankfully our big goofy dog (we have to the smaller one isnt much help but still trys) is amazing babysitter lol (i am always supervising) when she was smaller and even know he glued to her if she gets in to something he knows she not to have he takes it from her and brings it to me or before he grabs her arm gently and leads her away(worked better when she was one) same if she goes to far from us. Lol thats probably why after killing thirteen chickens i still havent shot him plus i have a soft spot for him.

Ok well friday Joshua goes and has his surgry (to lengthen his achilles tendon) then he will be in a cast for three weeks then he will go to the noots and bar for 23 hours for 3 months then it be just at night and during naps that he will wear the boots and bar for as long as he puts up with it till the age of five.

I'll pray for you - I can't imagine surgery on a baby. Glad to here he is done with casts though.

We are dealing with medical situations ourselves. My daughter was recently diagnosed to be completely deaf in 1 ear but because a man with a doctorate in Audiology at a university did the testing all the other audiology doctors working in the system (hospital, medical facilities etc) want to re-do the tests. I'd be fine but due to a long waiting list my daughter will have to wait 6 months before they can see her. That's 6 months for her to fall behind in speech even farther. 6 months for her to get frustrated and angry that nobody understands what she says. Frankly its 6 months too long! Her pediatrician is calling up every other hearing specialist she knows trying to get us in sooner so that maybe we can start getting her hearing aids. It's frustrating and hubby and I are giving it our best effort to learn ASL (American Sign language) in the meantime.

Thats frustrating i completely understand it took three month for Joshua to get seen by the orthopedic specialist and even the orth doctor was livid when we finally got seen. The reception desk kept calling me to push back the appoitment by two weeks at a time. He said normally they prefer to take care of this soon after birth because its easier o the child. I really hope she gets seen quickly that is really annoying that they want to retest her but cant get her in sooner!! I will be praying she does and everything will go great. I know the abcs in sign language and a few other things but not much one of my teachers showed me as a child and they hand a book mark with some signs at one of my schools it was a neat way to secretly talk to my mom lol neither of us needed it but it kept my brothers from knowing what we were talking about.

Boy does this thread take me back!

I was a stay at home Mom til about 4 years ago then I got a town job; which I just quit recently.
Forgot how nice it is to be at home with the last kid at home.

I remember my first flock of chickens when my son was around 2 years old; he's now 19. We were sitting outside watching the chickens walk around and be eating bugs and grass. So he was sitting there with a roast beef sandwich and this one chicken kept getting closer and closer to him. He looked towards me and the chicken stole his sandwich out of his hand!

He then looks at me again and is now mad that the chicken has his sandwich! He did get to laughing when the chicken got a beak full of mustard!

Only thing I can tell you from my years is pick your battles. Our kids are smarter then they want us to know.
The best thing for our kids was there was no computer, no video games, no satellite TV, just the outdoors and toys.
My son still gets bored with TV and video games. Daughter's only interest in TV is watching Dr. Pol.

Right now my son is up at college and working part time paying his own way and our daughter is taking care of her Jersey cattle and her 4-H steer.
