Hi Peeps,

I'm a newbie (7 months), and just got our first order of Cornish Xs. I'm wondering if switchel is ok to put in the chicks' water. It looks pretty close to the electrolyte packages, but I don't want to hurt the birds or lose our investment.

Here's the recipe: http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/switchel.htm

What do yall think?

Here's the ingredients for switchel. It looks pretty similar to the electrolyte mix, save the sodium. I usually omit the oats when I make it for the humans.

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (yes vinegar)
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup sugar or honey
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 cup oatmeal (optional)
tap water to make 2 quarts

I may not be the best one to answer since I am new at chickens myself, but I would not give that to the chicks. I have heard that molasses gives chickens diarrhea. But I may be wrong. Hopefully someone with some more experience can answer better.
