Tapeworms, need med without ivermectin

I hope that’s not a blanket statement for all animals, because the Heartgard I give my dogs to protect against heartworm is ivermectin. Oy.

Apparently, Ivermectin might be showing resistance in dogs, particularly in the south, which to me is understandable. Scroll down to "PARASITE RESISTANCE."

but you should not use the same dewormer every time or the parasites become resistant. So pick a few that treat what you have and rotate them.

This is not the most up-to-date information. It's now considered best practice to use one dewormer until it quits being effective, and then switching to a different dewormer. In testing it's been shown resistant parasites will begin to lose their resistance after about ten generations, so it's best to not be continuously rotating back in products.
